Founder’s Spotlight: Chabilo Mwilu at the Rotary Club Presidential Installation

Introduction

Saving Our Community Zambia (SOC Zambia) is proud to share that our founder, Chabilo Mwilu, recently represented the organization at the Rotary Club of Livingstone’s Presidential Installation Ceremony. Held at the elegant Crisma Hotel, this event marked the transition of leadership as a new Rotary Club president was sworn in for the year ahead.


What Is Rotary?

Rotary International is a global network of community-minded professionals and volunteers dedicated to “Service Above Self.” Since its founding in 1905, Rotary has:

  • United leaders for humanitarian service and peace-building
  • Funded and managed projects in education, health, clean water, and more
  • Promoted ethical standards in business and community leadership
  • Offered networking and leadership development opportunities

  • Opening Remarks: Rotary District Governor welcomed guests and highlighted last year’s achievements.
  • Outgoing President’s Address: Reflections on club milestones in youth scholarships, clean-water projects, and literacy programs.
  • Installation of New President: Formal handover of the Rotary gavel and pinning ceremony at sunset in the hotel’s garden courtyard.
  • Keynote Speech: Delivered by the incoming president, outlining priorities for community health initiatives and women’s empowerment.

🤝 Networking & Fellowship

  • Rotary Grace & Toast: A moment of gratitude and camaraderie.
  • Dinner & Cultural Performances: Traditional Makishi dancers opened the evening, followed by a Zambian buffet.
  • Informal Discussions: Chabilo joined Rotarians and guests to explore collaboration opportunities between SOC Zambia and Rotary on youth training programs.

What’s Next?

SOC Zambia will follow up with the Rotary Club of Livingstone to:

  • Co-design a joint clean-water project in nearby villages
  • Invite Rotarians to mentor our youth training cohorts on leadership and project management
  • Explore grant opportunities for scaling Basic Life Skills Trainings
