Driving Sustainable Change

All programs at Saving Our Community are tailored in line with the mission and vision statement. For the past years we have been working in the following fields;

Governance and Advocacy

Governance and Advocacy

The foundation of a resilient and thriving community is its ability to influence the policies and decisions that affect daily life. Our Governance and Advocacy program serves as the bridge between the community members we serve and the duty-bearers in positions of power. We believe that true community development is not just about service delivery, but about equipping citizens with the knowledge and tools to demand and uphold their fundamental rights.Through this program, we strive to build a culture of integrity and transparency within community structures, empowering local leaders and citizens to monitor the use of public resources. We foster civic engagement by creating platforms for dialogue and collective action, ensuring that the concerns of the most vulnerable are heard and addressed. Our advocacy work extends to influencing legislative and policy reforms, working collaboratively with other civil society organizations to champion issues such as anti-corruption, improved public service delivery, and the protection of civic rights. We focus on evidence-based advocacy, using research and community-led data to inform our campaigns and submissions, thereby ensuring our efforts are strategic, impactful, and rooted in the lived realities of Zambians.

Key Activities:

  • Community Capacity Building: Conduct training sessions and workshops for community members and local leaders on principles of good governance, public finance management, and civic rights.
  • Civic Education & Sensitization: Develop and disseminate educational materials on a variety of governance issues to raise awareness and encourage active participation in local and national affairs.
  • Accountability and Transparency Initiatives: Facilitate community scorecards and public forums to assess the performance of local government and service providers, promoting a culture of accountability.
  • Policy and Legislative Advocacy: Conduct evidence-based campaigns and prepare policy briefs and submissions to influence legal and policy reforms on issues of community importance.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with local, national, and international civil society organizations, media, and government institutions to form alliances for collective advocacy.
