Breaking Barriers with Pads, Purpose, and Positivity
At Saving Our Community Zambia (SOC), we believe that menstruation should never be a barrier to education, dignity, or self-confidence. Sadly, for many adolescent girls in under-resourced communities, access to menstrual hygiene products is still a major challenge—often leading to school absenteeism, social shame, and lost opportunities.
💡 The Initiative: 2,000 Reusable Sanitary Pads Delivered
Thanks to a generous partnership with Sew Powerful Zambia (SPZ), SOC Zambia recently delivered over 2,000 reusable sanitary pads to girls in safe houses and community schools in Livingstone. These pads are:
- ♻️ Eco-friendly and reusable for up to 18 months
- 💰 Cost-saving for households
- 🛡️ Designed for comfort and confidence
📚 What We Taught During Distribution
During each distribution event, we also held educational sessions on:
- Proper usage and cleaning of reusable pads
- Menstrual hygiene and health awareness
- Debunking myths and cultural taboos around menstruation
- Motivational talks on self-worth, education, and empowerment
🎯 The Impact So Far
- 2,000+ girls now have safe, sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions
- Increased school attendance among girls during their periods
- Boosted self-esteem and comfort talking about menstrual health
- Improved engagement of guardians and educators on menstrual issues
🚀 What’s Next?
Our vision is to reach 5,000 more girls by next year. Future plans include:
- Local production of reusable sanitary pads
- Training youth and women in pad-making as a green business
- Policy advocacy for free pads in public schools

When girls thrive, entire communities flourish.
